OUR NAME

Luminaria is a light-bearing word. The root “luminare” means “to light,” “to brighten,” “to shine.” The term “Luminaria” is most famously used for a type of lantern. Originally, these lanterns were small bonfires, and both fires and lanterns have been used throughout history to light our way in dark times, to guide us home, to communicate, and celebrate. They represent illumination and inspiration.
Like these ancient lanterns, LUMINARIA Wilderness Ventures is a beacon, showing your way to the Wild, which is our true home and way of being. The Wild is a place where you are encouraged to be your unedited self, a place that can illuminate your fears and insecurities, and simultaneously light you up.
OUR FOLKLORE

Often deeply misunderstood, Raven is the Trickster-Hero for many Indigenous cultures in North America, while in cultures around the world Raven is seen as a messenger, a creator and the bringer of lessons, gifts, and fire to the people.
The Trickster is a vital figure in human history. When things go wrong and we don’t know what to do, or when traditional approaches no longer work, Tricksters show up. At first they seem a little crazy, but Tricksters are the driving force behind innovation, shifting paradigms, and achieving the impossible. In human form, Tricksters often cause huge leaps in cultural change. We have chosen the Raven as our logo to help guide our Ventures.

Since time was mist, oral storytelling has been a fundamental part of what it means to be human. Stories have always played an important role in our survival. This lost art is the center point of LUMINARIA, and Bringing Home Epic Stories is our Touchstone.
