THE WILD, UNTAMED VERSION OF OURSELVES WILL EXHILARATE, EMPOWER, AND EVEN SCARE US A LITTLE, BECAUSE THIS IS THE TRUTH OF WHO WE ARE
Welcome to the Great Bear Rainforest, an isolated wilderness, home to the sacred salmon, oil-rich eulachon, life-sustaining seaweed, and the ancient red cedar, known as the “Tree of Life” for the Kwakwaka’wakw (Kwah-kwah-key-wok) people of the Pacific Northwest. Its moss-draped forests and mist-shrouded inlets still whisper stories of hand-planked cedar houses and stinging nettle rope.
The area is a maze of forested islands and secluded bays, many of which rarely, if ever, feel a human tread upon their mossy floors or rocky shores. Come explore the hidden treasures of the planet’s largest tract of intact temperate rainforest.
Deep in this landscape is where Nikki van Schyndel founder of LUMINARIA, spent nearly two years surviving off the land and sea using stone-age tools and Becoming Wild. Her hard-earned knowledge comes from decades of hovering over tide pools, following animal trails, and living alongside the wildlife she calls her neighbors. Her sense of place and relationship with the land and bears cannot be put into words, but must be experienced alongside her.
This is a magical place where eagles can be called with a whistle, the misty breath of humpback whales can be smelled upon the breeze, and shoreline delicacies can be foraged alongside the black bears, if you can speak their language.
Join us at our safety hidden, Salt + Cedar Camp and return with the treasures of the forest.
